Just for Laughs Festival, MontrealThe Just For Laughs Festival has begun in Montreal, showcasing French-language performers for the first two weeks, and then English-language performers from July 10.

Adam Hills is hosting a showcase of Australian and New Zealand comedians, for which the official website gives a “*coarse language” advisory. Bless.

Late Nite Down Under
Presented by Jacob’s Creek

From the other side of the planet emerge the best and brightest performers from Australia and New Zealand to ever cross the equator. For a show that’s hotter than the desert sun. Take a walkabout on the wild side and spend a Late Nite Down Under.

Host: Adam Hills (returning to Montreal for his fifth summer)
Line up: Brendon Burns, Dai Henwood, Hannah Gadsby, Tripod and, as the website says, “more!”

There will also be an Australian team competing in the World Improvisation Comedy Championship at Montreal.

Jozi Comedy Festival, JohannesburgOn the other side of the planet, Johannesburg has decided to stop letting Capetown have all the festival fun and will host the Jozi Comedy Festival from 30 June - 6 July 2008. (Capetown will host its annual International Comedy Festival in September as usual.)

The international lineup includes Queenslander Carl Barron as part of the UN Comedy Show. The festival also includes a Street Comedy showcase, a festival of comedy short films and an air guitar competition.
