Impro shake-ups in Melbourne & Sydney: venue woes

Lovers of improvised comedy will be sad to learn that regular impro performances in both cities are having venue problems.
- Sydney’s longest running improvised comedy show, Scared Scriptless from Impro Australia, is looking for a new venue:
After three and a half years and 182 shows at The Clarence Hotel, as of May 2008 we’ve had to move on, because it has been sold to developers.
We’re currently looking for a new venue in Sydney, so please watch this space. [link]
In Melbourne, Australia’s longest running improvised comedy show, Impro Sundae by The Crew, will have its final show at Bar Open in Fitzroy this Sunday night (June 22nd), and are also seeking(update) have found a new venue [link]. In the meantime they’re performing an impro show for a school charity fundraiser (benefiting schools in South Africa) on Tuesday June 24th [link].
So, if you know a venue that could do with some comedy, encourage the manager to contact some improvisers, then everybody can be happy. Update: As linked above, The Crew now have a new venue. Scared Scriptless will be on this coming Friday at the New Grad show at the Fuse Box @ The Factory Theatre [link]. Fingers crossed for an announcement of a new permanent venue!

Just to let everyone know, The Crew have secured a new venue - the wonderful Bella Union bar at Trades Hall. Impro Sundae will be there on the second and fourth Sunday of each month, starting on July 13!

In a friendly Melbourne vs. Sydney kinda way, it would be interesting to know for sure who has been running the longest. The Crew say they’re Australia’s longest running improvised comedy show, starting in 2001, yet Scared Scriptless say they’ve been running in Sydney since the early 1990s.

Well Richard, I personally was treading the boards for Scared Scriptless in Sydney in 1999 and 2000, and the show had been running for a while before I started.
Scared Scriptless has had the odd hiatus without a venue etc, but I’m pretty sure that the same can be said for The Crew, too. Well spotted.
