Sydney & Melbourne: some new rooms!

29 September 2008 by Viv Smythe No Comments Yet

There’s a new room opening up at Sydney’s iconic Marble Bar underneath the Hilton Hotel (488 George Street), managed by Lisa Rathbone (ex-Comedy Store):

There will be a very grand opening night on the 14th Oct. Tickets are $15 plus a free drink as an introductory offer.Which is great value, so people will need to book in advance to secure a table. There will be meals and table service in a heritage high class setting. Nothing else around like it.

Opening night will be a line up of David Smiedt - MC, Jacques Barrett,
Jackie Loeb and John Moloney from UK to headline.

That’s one slick opening night, and the 6:30 timeslot is a good one to catch the city-worker crowd at the end of a Tuesday. It’s been a while since there’s been a comedy room right in the heart of the city, so it should be popular.

Sydney’s Mic in Hand team are opening up a new room in Melbourne this month as well. Presumably at some time they’ll let us know the actual date:

I know I’ve been banging on about this, but we have our line up sorted for the opening night of a Mic in Hand @ Vibe on Smith Street in Melbourne. Rove is headlining, Daniel Moore is hosting and we have a whole bunch of other goodies including Charlie Pickering among others.

The Laugh Garage has actually let the world know the address of their new “opening soon” second room in Sydney CBD:

The Laugh Garage Comedy Club will soon be opening it’s city venue in Sydney’s CBD in the basement on the corner of Elizabeth & Park St. We will have disabled access. The Laugh Garage Comedy Club will be performing live stand up comedy shows Monday-Saturday. Our comedy workshops will also be resuming before the end of the year.

It must really be coming soon (why no date yet?) because they are now taking registrations for their open-mic nights.
