Calvin de Grey 1957-2008

Calvin de GreyVeteran Australian comedian Calvin de Grey died on Sunday after a struggle with cancer.

Performing stand-up for over 25 years, de Grey won the Mo award as Australia’s Best Male Comedy Performer in 2004 and was part of a comedy dynasty, following his father Slim and watching his son Asher take up the mic in his turn.

He will be sorely missed.

    Aw this has come as a bit of a shock to me as i heard nothing on the grapevine.

    I helped launch calvin’s book last year and have talked to him on the phone now and again.

    Good-bye Calvin old mate we will miss your unique humour and wonderful compassion.

    All the best to his beautiful family as well.

    There will be a memorial service for Calvin de Grey this coming weekend, St. John’s Church, 120 Darlinghurst Road, Darlinghurst, at 11 a.m. on Saturday (November 22, 2008)

    Calvin was a genuine bloke.
    I was diagnosed with cancer about 1 year after him and he was encouraging me while going through his own battle. Thats the sort of bloke he was.

    He’s probably up in Heaven right now cracking everyone up.

    Will miss you mate !

    Gobsmacked here in the States. I worked with Cal in our “formative” years.

    I cannot think of Calvin De Grey without smiling. That is a fantastic legacy for anyone to leave.

    And hullo to Jean Paul Bell and Peter Fox and Steve Davis…now isn’t just like Cal…still bringing people together. (Rhonda Carling-Rodgers here chaps!)

    keep the beer cold for us Cal, we’ll all see you when we cross over!
