Reviews: Kitty Flanagan, Jamie Kilstein

Tuesday 18th November, Comedy @ Marble Bar, Kitty Flanagan headlining
Thursday 20th November, The Comedy Store, Jamie Kilstein headlining

Comedy @ Marble Bar seems to be developing a nice core of regulars after work on Tuesday evenings, which makes for a pleasant buzz to the room, although they tend to be grinners and chucklers rather than belly-laughers....
Arriving late for The Comedy Store...MickeyD, as MC, was a larrikin maestro, fast-foot-working around the stage while delivering great big dollops of cheeky to approving roars...the featured support act, Dave Jory. His wry observational style punctuated by the lunges for emphasis won her over, and totally cracked up the room. If his cats and my cat ever get a chance to plot together, the human race is doomed...
Headliner Jamie Kilstein was promoted as part of the New York underground scene, which is apparently comedy code for “no, you haven’t seen him on Letterman or Leno” and “yes, he’s all over YouTube” (which is handy for checking him out before going to a show). His material was rather like a distillation of the sharpest left-leaning American political blogs - talking points with a twist - so it was very much my cup of tea... Continue reading

SUPPORTED BY: James Rochford, Matt Dyktynski & MC David Smiedt

On its second ever comedy show, the Marble Bar sold out and was standing room only. Given that there's a nice long bar to lean on, standing room isn't too bad at all! The night began with a soft jazz musical act to wind the crowd down a bit after their day at work, this week guitarist Roger Black did the mellow honours. Then it was on with the funnies.

Every mum in Australia should be grateful to Fiona O'Loughlin for showing that mothering doesn't have to be taken oh so seriously. By her own report her style of parenting evokes the escapades of a St-Trinian's-4th-former, which must startle the neighbours at times... Continue reading

Coming this Tuesday 28th October looks like another great night of comedy with the fabulous Fiona O'Loughlin headlining. Comedy @ Marble Bar
The Marble Bar (underneath the Hilton Hotel)
488 George Street, Sydney
6:30 pm Tuesdays
$15 (includes one free drink)

For the first time in far too many years, there's a comedy room in the heart of the city again. And what a room! Sydney institution The Marble Bar, its glamour restored and furnishings updated not too long ago, normally hosts musical entertainment; Lisa Rathbone has persuaded them to vary the menu and offer a night of stand-up comedy every week on Tuesdays, starting at the perfect time to catch people needing their ribs tickled after work.

The opening night line-up was guaranteed to draw a crowd: headlined by UK legend John Moloney, MC'ed by the engaging David Smiedt, and ably supported by veteran mischief-maker Jackie Loeb and popular rising comic Jacques Barrett. A full house turned up in the mood for a good time. Continue reading
